Welcome to my Day4 blog! After learning about Environments and Companies in my previous blogs, it is also important to understand the licensing and pricing as we transition from GP to BC. What are the things to consider?  Here's some tips on how many user license you need in Business Central: Make a list of your existing Dynamics GP users. Identify users that has full access and view only mode. Ask those view only users how often they use Dynamics GP. If view only users use Dynamics GP occasionally like once a week or twice a month, check to see if one license is enough per Team - that means one member will do the Inquiry for the team. Your Partner will ask if you need Essential or Premium License in Business Central. The quick answer is if you don't need Manufacturing or Service Management, you only need Essential License.   We are now on Day 3 with our GP to BC adventure series! If you follow along this blog with my two previous blogs, I am confident that you should be able to create your own environments and companies in Business Central online.   Dynamics GP Create a Company To create a company in Dynamics GP, we start by launching Dynamics GP Utilities and login as "sa" system admin. We click next to follow the wizard as shown in my screenshots below.  In Additional Tasks, we select "Create Company" and then click on "Process".  We can only use maximum of 5 characters for company ID and 64 characters for company name.  I usually leave the shipping methods, payment terms and load chart of accounts checkboxes unmarked.   In my previous blog , we learned about the structure of database and environments comparing GP to BC. This time we will explore more about Environments.   In Dynamics GP, we create our environments (SQL Instance) upon installing our SQL Server and we define its name during the installation process. We consider the SQL instance name as a permanent name because renaming it is a sin!:) We install Dynamics GP on each workstations or Application Servers and we use the SQL Server name or IP address to create our ODBC for Dynamics GP to connect to the server. In Business Central, your Environment is ready available for you upon license purchase no need to install anything.  There are two types of licenses: Premium and Essentials . If you need Service Management and Manufacturing, you will need the Premium license. We will discuss this in details in my separate blog. Number of environments To access your Environments, you must have a SUPER user rights, click on Settings >> Environment
